Vordel is looking for a talented and enthusiastic technical writer to help take our product documentation to the next level. We are seeking a technical writer to join our Engineering department and help us deliver top quality documentation to our customers. This position is a unique opportunity to grow professionally, work with a wide range of technologies, and gain valuable experience in an agile software environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather documentation requirements from Product Management and Engineering
  • Plan, develop, and deliver high quality product documentation to agreed time schedules (for example, Installation Guides, User Guides, Reference Guides, and online help)
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Support, Professional Services, and QA teams to obtain required information
  • Read technical specifications and translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand content
  • Create content in a structured XML authoring environment using a task-oriented approach
  • Write for different audience levels (for example, system administrators, network engineers, developers, and system architects)
  • Install product software and test features to verify steps are documented correctly
  • Generate documentation in multiple formats (for example, HTML, PDF, and online help)

Required Skills:

  • Third level qualification in one or more of the following: Technical Communication, English, Computer Science or related discipline
  • 4-5 years experience of technical writing in a software development environment
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent written English
  • Experience of writing technical documentation using DocBook XML/XSL
  • Experience working in a Unix/Windows environment
  • Working knowledge of Java/C++, databases, Eclipse, and Ant
  • Experience with graphics software (for example, Microsoft Viso, Adobe Photoshop, or GIMP)
  • Understanding of Web Technologies: HTTP, Web Services (SOAP/REST), API, XML, JSON, SSL
  • Experience of version control systems (for example, Git, SVN)
