Vordel Survey of Australian Market Finds Half of Enterprises Are Leveraging APIs to Expose Applications to Partners
Three Quarters of Australian Enterprises Polled are Deploying Mobile Applications
Dublin, Ireland - October 4, 2012
- Vordel, the API Server provider connecting business, mobile and cloud, today announced the findings of its recent Application Programming Interface (API) adoption poll. The poll conducted during Vordel's recent Immerse workshop in Sydney, Australia, revealed that half of the Australian enterprises polled are using APIs to expose applications to partners. Additionally, the survey revealed a quarter of the respondents polled are using APIs for mobile adoption; with the remaining quarter of respondents leveraging APIs for multiple purposes including, the integration of on premise systems to cloud, as well as in-house system integration.
The research also revealed that three quarters of organizations polled were either planning to or had deployed mobile applications. It also showed that three quarters of the Australian enterprises polled either had an API or were planning to do so. Of note, the vast majority of enterprises polled were concerned about API security. Additionally, the research showed a notable split in the use of externally hosted cloud services with half of the respondents using externally hosted cloud services and half not doing so.
Today, businesses and consumers around the world are being wired together via APIs. According to Forrester Research, "every enterprise with an Internet presence has opportunities to expose web-based application programming interfaces (APIs) to third-party access, unlocking value in data and services that would otherwise be hidden behind monolithic legacy systems. "Our research shows Australian enterprises are increasingly leveraging APIs to expose applications to partners," said Hugh Carroll, VP Marketing with Vordel. "It was significant that half of respondents polled were interested in using APIs to expose applications to partners while there was very little demand in leveraging APIs to build a developer community. This result shows today's enterprises are primarily leveraging mobile and cloud technologies to rapidly develop and deliver new customer services to drive revenue growth in these new channels."
