...we required a defence solution to meet our immediate requirements of enforcing perimeter security for the initial roll out of Web Services We also required an enterprise solution that would scale as our services-based transaction volumes increased and would enable both security and internal management of these services.

Introduction:
The Allianz Group is one of the largest and most renowned financial services providers in the world. The Group brings together the expertise of specialists in the fields of property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, asset management and banking. Allianz is now present in more than 70 countries with over 177,000 employees that service more than 60 million customers worldwide.
Business Objective:
Allianz Ireland sought to streamline the delivery of insurance policy products to third party banking and insurance agent partners in its Irish-based distribution channels. The adoption of a services oriented approach to delivering insurance products would enable Allianz achieve greater efficiencies in time to market.
Business Challenge:
In a highly competitive marketplace Allianz needed to ensure continued quality of business service delivery to its customer base. By enabling third party resellers of its insurance products quickly and securely connect into its services platform Allianz sought to ensure its customer-centric approach would continue to lead the market. The information exchanged relates to a broad range of insurance products offered to its domestic and corporate clients.
Technical Challenge:
Allianz needed to overcome SOAP message formatting issues in order to facilitate ease of integration with its external partners and also implement a security and management framework to govern the Web Services APIs lifecycles. Services delivered via the existing LANSA application platform were of an RPC format which presented schema validation challenges to internal and external systems. Vordel's out of the box support for RPC to Document style SOAP message conversion ensured that all schema validation could be conducted without delay.
Benefits/Results:
Vordel's solution has enabled Allianz to roll out their SOA with minimum requirement for adjustments to systems or alterations to existing processes with increased cost savings as a result. By implementing Vordel, Allianz created a trusted framework for the validation and enforcement of security and management policies across its partner network. The ensuing gains in efficiency, auditability and transparency of process have ensured Allianz maintained its dominant position in the market place.
