Introduction:
This Mobile Network Operator (MNO) is a member of a leading telecommunications group with operations in fixed-line and mobile telecommunications, Internet and media, office & system solutions globally. The Group's 2006 consolidated revenues amounted to 31.3 billion Euro (23.2 billion Euro in the third quarter 2007). In the Brazilian market place, the MNO has a subscriber base of over 29 million users.
Business Objective:
In order to increase the average revenue per user, this MNO sought to implement a services delivery platform (SDP) for the delivery of innovative new services from a range of 3rd party content providers. The SDP would enable the rapid delivery of mobile games, sports, news, and ringtone services, across the 29 million plus subscriber base.
Business Challenge:
Efficient and timely rollout of innovate new services is key in the highly competitive mobile telecoms sector. The MNO needed to ensure that all 3rd party content providers could easily integrate into the SDP without any delays in order to deliver new services speedily to a growing customer base, but also be confident in the ability to manage the life-cycle of these services.
Technical Challenge:
The MNO needed to integrate diverse content providers across its network using APIs as the integration technology, without sacrificing on service scalability or performance response times to the end-user market. Simultaneously they needed to implement a framework for monitoring service usage across the entire API network and to enforce compliance with privacy data regulations.
Benefits/Results:
Vordel provides the MNO with full manageability and visibility of the API traffic on its SDP. By providing the API network management to ensure delivery and enforcement of policies for the API-based services within the SDP, Vordel ensures the MNO and all 3rd party providers are fulfilling their respective technical obligations and delivering a quality of service to end users.
At the network perimeter, Vordel manages incoming and exiting API traffic network and offloads key API processing functions from application servers and enforce runtime governance of performance and access control policies.
