Vordel continues commitment to interoperability with support for emerging standards, including WS-Security

4 September, 2002 - Boston, MA - Vordel, the Web Services security company, today announced that its flagship product VordelSecure will continue to interoperate with new standards being developed by OASIS and W3C.

"This gives VordelSecure a distinct advantage over proprietary solutions, especially hardware-based products, which lock the customer in," said Mark O'Neill, CTO, Vordel.

"Our customers already benefit from our support for SAML 1.0 and WS-Security, and they will benefit in future from our continual implementation of new standards as they are ratified in community standards bodies."

According to O'Neill, Vordel remains current with emerging standards through its status as a member of the WS-Security working group in OASIS. VordelSecure was also the first Web Services security product to implement SAML 1.0 and to prove interoperability with other vendor SAML implementations.

Karl Best, OASIS director of technical operations, said that "significant work is happening at OASIS in the areas of security and Web Services".

"WS-Security is a very important Web Services standard. It supports, integrates and unifies multiple security technologies to allow for platform-independent and language-neutral security," Best continued. "We are excited by the overwhelming response from OASIS members such as Vordel collaborating on driving forward the WS-Security standard."

Derek O'Carroll, CEO Vordel, explained that the company ensures that its products are "forwards-compatible" by using "interoperable standards, not proprietary specifications".

"Vordel works closely with industry groups such as OASIS and the W3C, and through close partnership with integration and security companies," O'Carroll said. "This ensures that VordelSecure is an essential part of a unified enterprise security architecture."

SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) is an XML-based security standard for exchanging authentication and authorization information. Because it is an open standard, it allows security products such as VordelSecure to communicate with other security infrastructure, regardless of type or implementation.

The WS-Security specification, initiated by Microsoft, IBM and VeriSign, and then submitted to OASIS, is a Web Services standard to support, integrate and unify multiple security models, mechanisms and technologies.
