Dublin, Ireland, November 26 2003 - Vordel, the Web Services security company, today announced the release of Vordel SOAPbox, a free tool to make Web Services security simple to learn and to test.
Vordel SOAPbox is used to create XML messages which contain security tokens, without the need for writing code. Developers, testers, and application support technicians will use it to create XML messages that comply with security standards such as WS-Security and SAML. These secure messages may be targeted at a Web Service, over HTTP or SSL, in order to test the Web Service for security compliance.
Mark O'Neill, CTO of Vordel, explained that Vordel's intention is to "make life a lot easier for anyone using and testing SOAP, and SOAP security in particular".
"If you've been trying to test a Web Services security policy, you'll know how tricky it can be to construct SOAP security elements - inserting them in the right place, and the right order, into your messages," O'Neill explained. "Vordel SOAPbox gives you a transparent way of submitting a SOAP message with security, and viewing the response."
"We hope by releasing Vordel SOAPbox freely to the wider community, we'll contribute to the growing adoption of Web Services, by allowing developers to test and demonstrate the integrated security that is vital to any XML-based project."
Vordel SOAPbox allows simple security configuration that does not require programming - for example, SAML assertions and X.509 certificates can be inserted into SOAP messages using an intuitive GUI. SOAP messages may be submitted to public or private Web Services, and the response viewed. The tool also allows attachments to be sent and received with SOAP messages, and viewed on-screen.
Vordel SOAPbox is available for download at: http://www.vordel.com/soapbox.
