Linking local applications and Cloud providers

The emerging consensus is for a "hybrid" model which mixes local applications with cloud computing resources. Vordel 5 Cloud Edition facilitates this hybrid computing model via a drag-and-drop configuration model without recourse to coding and delivers the requisite levels of visibility, metering and security controls to provide control over the mixed environment.

Consider a typical scenario where Vordel Cloud Edition's XML Gateway is being used to present a Web Services interface in front of a JMS Queue - as depicted in diagram below.

A developer now wishes to make use of the Amazon S3 cloud service, in order to provide an online backup of the data which is being sent to the Message Queue. Rather than writing code, the developer can simply drag and drop the functionality into the circuit running on the XML Gateway, using Vordel Policy Studio as below.

Once configured in Policy Studio, the connection is now created from the XML gateway, out through the firewall, to the Amazon Cloud service.

The connection to the cloud is secured by Vordel XML Gateway, and usage is monitored. Visibility into cloud usage is provided by Vordel's monitoring and reporting product, Vordel Reporter.

This simple scenario can quickly be scaled to a situation where multiple local services are connected and linked to external clouds.
